After twelve years and thirty million albums, The Corrs decided it was time for a break and while the others started families, Andrea Corr set about a solo career. Her debut album is released on June 18th and the single ‘Shame On You (to keep my love from me)’ be out on June 11th. We chat to Andrea about her solo career, her friendship with Bono and her red carpet blooper.
1)What made you decide to take time out from the band and launch a as solo artist?
It was 2005 when we finished the Irish record and everyone in my family was having babies and things like that. My manager came to me and said that this was the time to go solo as the opportunity might not present itself again in a couple of years. I had already written quite a lot of songs that didn’t fit with The Corrs so I thought it must have been fate.
2)How many nieces and nephews do you have?
I have five and it is going to be six really soon. No plans for me though – I’m a devoted aunty and god mother.
3)Is your music different compared to The Corrs?
It’s completely different and it’s not that I made that decision but it’s obvious that it would be. It takes four people to make The Corrs music and this is just me. I want people to know it’s different so that they listen with an open ear. There are no violins for a start!
4)If you had to describe your album in three words what would they be?
NOT LIKE CORRS
