Lucie Silvas may be an unfamilar name but you would have heard her songs. She has written tracks for S Club 7, Liberty X and Rachel Stevens. She wrote 'Who Am I?'by Will Young and performed with Lionel Richie and Daniel Bedingfield to name but a few.
Her first album, 'Breath In' sold 400,000 and now she launches her second album 'The Same Side' on the 13th November. We have the video to her new single 'Last Year', which is out on the 6th November. We chat to Lucie about the album, performing for Elton John, and touring with family.
Q: Who inspired you to get into music?
LS: My Mum! She is a singer as well. Not professionally but she use to sing in bands when we were little.
Q: Who were your influences growing up?
LS: Definitely the Jackson 5 and The Beatles, The Carpenters, FleetWood Mac. Especially Carole King, because to me she was the perfect singer/songwriter. I loved Elton John as well.
Q: You performed for Elton John, how was that?
LS: I played the piano for Daniel Bedingfield when we were performing 'Your Song'. It was the scariest moment of my career. I had my idol in front of me and I was playing for Daniel who I had only met that day.
Q: Do you have any other great moments?
LS: I did a duet with Lionel Richie at the Mermaid theatre in London for Radio 2. To this day I still don't know how or why it happened. I just thought, 'Lucie, what the hell are you doing here and how the hell did you get to do this.'
Q: Do you prefer to write music or perform?
LS: I love to perform my own songs. There is a real buzz about performing your own songs and people are responding to it there is nothing like it. But performing, I love the adrenaline I feel when I'm on stage.
Q: Are you planning on touring again?
LS: Yes. I've been touring in Europe up until June of this year and now I am going to organise a UK and European tour in March next year for my new album.
I love being on the tour bus, I love the atmosphere of my entire band together. We have known each other since we were fourteen and my sister is also in my band.
Q: Do you have sisterly arguments?
LS: Not really. We have had the odd one, when we borrow each others clothes or something stupid like that but never any major issues.
Q: Do you save your best songs for yourself?
LS: I separate it completely. When I am writing for other people I haven't got myself in my brain at all. The songs like Who Am I?' that Will Young released, I would never have sung myself.
Q: It was very popular.
LS: I never expected the song to do so well. I didn't even know he was going to do it in the first place. When I did find out I was thrilled and the amount of play it's had. He's fantastic.
