Gareth Jenkins: 2006-?
Recently appointed as the new coach of the Wales Rugby Union team. The former director of rugby for Llanelli Scarlets agreed a two year contract which will take him to the 2007 World Cup.
Mike Ruddock: 2004-2006
Got the job ahead of Gareth Jenkins even though he didn’t apply and led Wales to their first Grand Slam victory in 27 years. He made the announcement to leave the post midway through the Six Nations Championship for family reasons, although it’s said player power was the true reason for his departure. Was replaced in the short term by Scott Johnson.
Steve Hansen: 2002-2004
The concept of foreign coaches is nothing new to the world of Welsh rugby. Another New Zealander took over from Henry becoming Wales’ ninth coach in 13 years. He left the post for ‘family reasons’ – his last match was a crushing 44-10 victory over Italy.
Graham Henry: 1998-2002
The Auckland man took the Welsh on a 10-match unbeaten run going into the 1999 World Cup, including victory over South Africa and England. They reached the Quarter-final of the competition going out to eventual champions Australia. That was as good as it got though and he soon left the post following some mediocre performances.
