The man imaginatively nicknamed Rog, holds the third-longest consecutive stay as World No.1, behind Jimmy Connors and Ivan Lendl: he has been ranked number 1 since February 2004.
2. He took up his first tennis racket at the age of six and by his own admission he was a bit of a tantrum tosser in his youth, breaking rackets shouting out loud, or even worse, crying. These days, he’s a mild and controlled, yet, ruthless cold killer on the tennis court.
3. He is well known for his on-court fashions, and Nike keep him decked out in the latest gear, including his gold encrusted Air Zoom Vapor Speed shoes. At Wimblendon 2006, he took his tongue-in-chic styles to a new plateau when he introduced us to his tailor-made cream blazer, complete with Federer logo.

In 2006 Roger became the first man in the open era to win both the US Open and Wimbledon in three consecutive years. He matched Pete Sampras by taking his fourth consecutive Wimbledon title by defeating Rafael Nadal before defeating Andy Roddick in the US Open.

When he reached the US Open final in 2006, Federer became the first man in the open era to make it to six consecutive Grand Slam finals, winning five out of six.

2004 was a career defining year for the Fed as he won 11 titles in total. He picked up three of the four Grand Slams including his first US and Australian Open titles. He also retained his Wimbledon crown. All of this was achieved without a coach.

9. He is currently dating fellow Swiss Miroslava Vavrinec Mirka, who retired from the game of tennis in 2002 after a foot injury. The two met at the 2000 Sydney Olympics and she manages him.
10. In April of 2006, Roger who is fluent in three languages, was appointed a Goodwill Ambassador to UNICEF. He also co-established the Roger Federer Foundation in 2003 which does a lot of good work for disadvantaged kids in South Africa.
