Nick Heathcote reports back from Walt Disney World Resort, Florida as the park launches its fifteen month celebration "The Year of a Million Dreams".
Walt Disney World Resort in Florida is aptly named as it truly is a different world away from other parks and resorts that you may have visited. The enormity of the resort is hard to fathom as the self enclosed kingdom spans over 50 square miles and is packed full of
Walt Disney’s dreams and aspirations. In many respects it is a kin to a self enclosed country. Visitors are transported into a different land with its own curious customs, infrastructure, navy and even its own money, in the form of Disney Dollars.
The care and attention to detail lavished in the design of the park means that
every guest’s whim is catered for. Disney attempts to remove all of the stress and strain from their guests’ journey. Certain airlines, including Delta, Continental, American and United have adapted their service to include Disney’s Magical Express. This is an innovative airport shuttle, luggage delivery and air-line check-in service. Travellers simply step on to a state- of-the-art motor coach at Orlando International Airport and soak in the picturesque surroundings as their baggage is delivered directly to their resort room.
Accommodation
There are a host of weird and wonderful hotels available to cater for all your holiday needs. The Wilderness and Animal Kingdom Lodges are two which are both built on a truly gargantuan scale.The Animal Kingdom Lodge is a six-story deluxe resort. It’s thatched-roof, hewn-timber structure is laid out in a horseshoe shape after a kraal African village design. The resort features hand-carved furnishings, African art and a giant fireplace in a soaring lobby. It nestles on 75 acres of the Animal Kingdom’s theme park and emerges organically from the 33-acre exotic savannah park, which provides most of the rooms with sweeping views into an African animal.
The Wilderness Lodge has a National Park is set within thick National Park woodland and is reminiscent of the famous lodges of American National Parks at the turn of the century. The hotel features quarried stone and lodge pole pine with a log-structured towering six story lobby, replete with tepee-topped chandeliers, totem poles and an 82ft tall stone fireplace.
