Is your passport fit to travel?

Now's the time to make sure your passport is up to date, as some countries require up to six months validity to grant you entry. The UK Passport Service. Advises you to keep you passport safe and separate from other documents. As an additional safety measure, take a photocopy of your passport with you, in case yours gets lost or stole, and keep it separate from the original.

Passport checklist

• Check it's valid, well before you go
• Keep it safe
• Keep it separate from other important documents
• Keep a photocopy (especially of the Passport number)
• If lost or stolen in the UK, inform the police and the UK Passport Service
• If lost or stolen abroad, contact the nearest British Consulate, Embassy or High Commission and inform the police
• Pick up a Passport Application Form at the Post Office or branches of WorldChoice travel agents
• Apply for a passport online at www.passport.gov.uk
